Balchik is a small and very romantic seaside town. It is situated in the northern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast - 40 km from Varna.
Balchik attracts tourists with its ancient history and unique atmosphere preserved until today. The town is located amphitheatrically over the seacoast, amidst romantic white hills. There are many small cobblestone streets with old houses which have a special spirit and give a unique poetic charm to the town.
The town has a well-developed infrastructure, many shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes, hospitals, banks. For the convenience of holidaymakers there are many hotels, guest houses and vacation homes.
In 1921 the Romanian Queen Maria visited Balchik for the first time and remained fascinated by the picturesque seashore, the beauty and tranquility of the town. Shortly after that, she decided to return to Balchik and stay there for good. That is why in 1924 began the building of the palace complex of the queen. She had one basic requirement – despite the building of the palace, the beauty and splendor of the area that has captured her heart had to be preserved. Nowadays, the palace is one of the main tourist attractions in Balchik and enjoys high attendance and interest.
The other attraction that has become an emblem of the town is the Botanical Garden. It is the largest one on the Balkan Peninsula and ranks second in the world. Extremely rare and interesting plant species from around the world can be found here, located between waterfalls, small streams and decorative canals.
The coastline is 4 km long and is a very pleasant place to go for a walk. The beach is relatively small but provides peace and privacy.
There are three modern golf courses in close proximity to Balchik. There are also other interesting places in the area - the village of Kranevo, the rock capital of Bulgaria - Kavarna, as well as many campsites. Kaliakra reserve and fortress are also near the resort.
Balchik offers many opportunities for balneotherapy and health tourism. The area is rich in mineral springs that help treat different diseases. 4 km away from Balchik is the spa resort Tuzlata, which is a famous mud treatment center.
